From Tropical Storm Floyd to major snowstorms, Meteorologist and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, native Scott Sumner has seen and worked in all types of interesting weather.
After graduating from Kean University in 1992, Scott’s television career began when he joined WCBS-TV in New York as a weather producer. In the ten years that followed, he witnessed to two major weather events…the “Super Storm of 1993,” where widespread heavy snows extended from Alabama to New York state, virtually paralyzing the eastern third of the country, and the “Blizzard of 1996.” Scott was also part of the weather team that won an Emmy for outstanding coverage of an anticipated Breaking News Story in February 1994.
In the fall of 1998, Scott started, in addition to working at WCBS, on-air for a local cable TV station in New Jersey called News12. During his tenure there he was hired to be the weekend weather anchor with additional duties during the week.
In the new millennium, Scott had the fortunate opportunity to freelance for WCBS, working the morning/noon shows. By working closely with such professionals, he was able to gain great knowledge from them which helped him to hone his craft and advance in the field of meteorology. In the summer of 2005, Scott’s travels took him south. Living in North Carolina, South Carolina and his latest city Savannah, Georgia, Scott forecasted many severe weather events, including Hurricane Matthew, where he was part of a weather team that won Best Coverage of a Severe Weather Event.
When he is not working, Scott enjoys keeping fit through tennis, golf and softball. Scott also enjoys traveling as well as playing the guitar, bass and writing music.
